Lead covered cables have been in use for over 80 years and have demonstrated exceptional service reliability. Two of the most common constructions in use have a lead sheath. Dealing with the lead on these cables has become costly due to Federal and State safety regulations imposed on the handling of this material.

This guide recognizes the most common materials and techniques associated with the installation and maintenance of lead covered cables. Other materials or techniques may be acceptable.

The installation techniques and practices covered in this guide must be considered general in nature and may not be applicable to all installations. Local circumstances must be considered when applying this guide to specific situations.
