This study focuses on leaching of vinyl chloride monomer from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe used in distribution systems that is directly related to cancer. The risk assessment that was performed is outlined and state work plans for vinyl chloride testing are summarized. A memorandum from the US Environmental Protection Agency Regional Office 7 Toxicologist Superfund Division/SACR is included, which summarizes some of the water test results from Doniphan County Kansas Rural Water District No.5, identifies relevant regulatory and advisory levels for comparison with test results, and assesses the health risks from ingestion and inhalation of vinyl chloride resulting from domestic water use.
