A fastening system was designed to monitor clamp load retention by as cast coupons as nut members. The system was developed to simulate stress and strain conditions as encountered in thermo-cycled automotive fastening systems. Two magnesium alloys and an aluminum alloy were tested under these conditions. A description of the laboratory test procedure and evaluation methodology are reported in this paper.
